Skills & Experience

I am a fellowship-trained Foot & Ankle surgeon. I am working as a Consultant at Manchester University Foundation Trust. I completed my BOA National Fellowship at Wrightington hospital, which is a world-renowned centre of excellence for specialist orthopaedic training.

 

My skills and interests include management of Ankle Arthritis (Ankle Replacement and Ankle Fusion), Hallux Valgus (Bunion correction), Hallux Rigidus (Fusion and Silastic replacement surgery), Ankle Arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), sports injuries, Achilles tendon problems, fusion surgery for hindfoot and midfoot, lesser toe disorders, Plantar Fasciitis and management of fractures related to the Foot, Ankle and lower limb injuries.

 

Current Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Departmental lead for junior doctor recruitment and Research Development

  • Previous Lead for Clinical Governance, Clinical Audit and Infection Prevention

  • Specialist Adviser to CQC

  • Expert witness in medicolegal reporting

  • Member of British Orthopaedic Association and British & European Foot and Ankle Societies

  • Member of IT Committee, British Foot & Ankle Society

Education & Training

I graduated from King Edward Medical College, Lahore in 2000 and did my internship in Surgery and Medicine at Mayo Hospital, which is the largest hospital in public sector in Pakistan.  I moved to the UK in 2003 and completed my basic surgical training in Scotland. I obtained membership into The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2007. My higher surgical training experience comprises of working at Royal Derby Hospital, University Hospitals of Nottingham and University Hospitals of North Midlands, which are two of the largest major trauma centres in the UK.

  • Masters of Science Trauma & Orthopaedics, University of Salford, 2015

  • Fellowship of European Board of Orthopaedics & Traumatology, 2016

  • Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons of England in Trauma & Orthopaedics, 2016

  • Certification of BOA Clinical Leadership, 2018

  • Masters level in Health Management and Leadership, Chartered Management Institute, 2018

Research & Teaching

I have a keen interest in orthopaedic research. I regularly teach at postgraduate and undergraduate levels. I have delivered various lectures in different meetings including an invited speaker on international events.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Current (and previous) Principle Investigator of various national multicentre randomised controlled trials

  • Published 38 articles (RCT, meta-analysis, systematic reviews, prospective studies, book chapters, retrospective case series and case reports) in peer-review journals.

  • Presented research work at over 60 international, national and regional conferences

  • F&A lead for undergraduate teaching, University of Manchester

  • Editorial board member and reviewer for peer-review Trauma and Orthopaedics journals

Outside Medicine

I have a keen interest in photography. Some of my photographs are included in photography section here. I play cricket as a fast bowling all-rounder and represent a local club.
